You Belong Here

Since 1977, Dogwood Elementary School has proudly served the Germantown community, fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment for approximately 640 students. Our guiding principles - Be Responsible, Everyone has Value, Listen to Understand, Operate with Kindness, Never Give Up, and Grow into a World Changer - shape every aspect of our school culture. Together, we embrace the belief that "All Dolphins Belong," encouraging excellence, creativity, and inclusivity for every member of our school community here at Dogwood.

Dolphins Belong

Dogwood's About Us

#DolphinLife

Dogwood is all about celebrating each and everyone of our students and helping them to grow into world changers. Our motto, "All Dolphins Belong," is not just about the school day. Our students are taught to be leaders both here at DES, but also out in the community. We strive to ensure that our staff members, teachers, students, and community are proud to be Dogwood Dolphins, and DES provides a strong foundation for our students to be successful leaders.

"No matter what you are interested, no matter where you come from, Dogwood always makes sure that all Dolphins belong."

Featured Story

Dogwood Storybook Trail

The Dogwood Storybook Trail provides students with an interactive exploration of literature in nature. Students are able to get out of the classroom, take a walk, and go through some of their favorite stories with a whole new perspective. DES Librarian Ms. McIntyre chose to have students explore the book Knock, Knock, which follows the story of a bear's hibernation using knock knock jokes.

All of Dogwood's MAPs teachers and our Tech Coach Ms. Dodge were a huge part in helping bring this project to life, and allowing our students to experience physical activity and engage with a story in an unconventional way.

Exceptional Gifted Services

Meet Ms. Cunningham

Karen Cunningham is a gifted teacher at Dogwood, and she has written a resource book for parents to better understand gifted process and programming. The GMSD Gifted Education Guide outlines how the gifted programs work within GMSD, and it is a guide to help not only parents, but teachers and administrators as well.

Ms. Cunningham also shares that one of the biggest aspects featured in the guide is how gifted students are identified and the state regulations surrounding that process. The gifted evaluation process includes looking at a student's academic achievement, creativity, both in the classroom and at home, and cognitive measure.
