Dogwood Buzzes About Fire Safety

Dogwood Elementary School’s gymnasium buzzed with excitement on Tuesday as the Germantown Fire Department delivered an engaging fire safety presentation themed around Disney-Pixar’s beloved Toy Story. Designed for pre-k through first-grade students, the 30-minute session aimed to teach young children critical fire safety rules in a fun and interactive manner.

Dressed as their favorite characters, firefighters transformed into Buzz Lightyear, Woody, and Jessie, captivating the young audience. The presentation kicked off with an entertaining skit that illustrated the difference between a tool and a toy, ensuring that students understood the importance of not touching tools meant for adults, especially in the context of fire safety.

The gym echoed with laughter and cheers as the students enthusiastically participated in a game where they pretended to be toys whenever they thought “Andy” was entering the room. This clever interactive element not only brought the characters to life but also instilled the importance of staying safe and being aware of their surroundings.

To the delight of the children, the presentation also featured a surprise guest appearance by Forky and Rex, who popped up from behind the backdrop to say hi. The joyful atmosphere kept the students focused and eager to learn.

The Germantown Fire Department’s innovative approach to fire safety education not only entertained but also equipped young minds with knowledge that could save lives, making the event a resounding success at Dogwood Elementary.
