Dogwood Elementary School's Fine Arts Night was a huge success! The art teachers, Mrs. Ashley Luyendyk and Mrs. Kayla Whitsett, worked tirelessly to put together a night of fun and creativity for all the students. There were performances by the Steel Drum Band and the Orchestra, as well as craft tables and opportunities for the students to work on a collaborative art piece to hang in the hall. The PTO was very helpful in setting up and running the event.
"If there's one thing I know for sure, it's that Dogwood shows up," said PTO Fine Arts Chair Bethany Slocum. "The parents show up to help, doing whatever is needed and more than asked. They show up to cheer on their kids as they play steel drums, perform in the orchestra, have award winning pieces on display."
The night started with a performance by the Steel Drum Band. The students loved watching the band play lively music. After the performance, the students had a chance to work on their own art projects. There were tables set up with all sorts of materials, and the students were free to create whatever they wanted. Some students painted pictures, while others made sculptures or collages. There was also a table set up with materials for a collaborative art piece. The students worked together to create a beautiful mural that will hang in the school hallway.
The Fine Arts Night was a great way for the students to express their creativity and have some fun. It was also a great opportunity for the parents to see what their children were learning in art class. Thanks to the hard work of the art teachers, the PTO, and all the volunteers, Dogwood Elementary School's Fine Arts Night was a night to remember.
"It takes a village, and there is no better village than Dogwood," Slocum said.
