The Dogwood Elementary School cross country team, made up of students in grades 3-5, was excited for the start of the season. The team had been training hard all summer, and they were ready to compete.
Last weekend, the team ran the Nike 3K in Downtown Memphis. Elyn Miller, Ivy McIntyre, Elyse Borgman, Kyle Osborne, and Cade Johnson all placed and will receive Nike gear.
Their first MYA one mile meet was on September 11 at Shelby Farms. The girls team was determined to win, and they ran their hearts out. They finished first out of 25 teams, and the boys team placed fourth out of 33 teams.
The team was thrilled with their results. āIām so proud of all of the improvement seen from last year to this year, and I am so excited to see how our new runners will continue to improve,ā Madison McKinstry, cross country sponsor, said.
The team is now more motivated than ever to keep training and improving. They are looking forward to the rest of the season and competing for a state championship, which will be held at Shelby Farms in Memphis this year for the first time in MYA history.
