Last week, 5th grade ELA classrooms at Dogwood Elementary transformed into cozy 'book bistros' to kick off a year-long reading initiative. This initiative aims to spark students' love for reading, leading up to the May Madness event. Students are currently selecting books for this event.
During the "book tasting," 32 carefully chosen books were presented for students to sample. These books were curated by Ms. Fredrick and Mrs. Guynes. Students can explore these selections throughout the year. At the end of the school year, students will vote to choose the best fifth-grade book.
The book bistros were set up by genre, allowing students to briefly examine covers, flaps, and contents. They made notes on personalized menus to document their thoughts. After the tasting, students picked a book to read while enjoying snacks. The event was a success, exposing students to new genres and fostering connections with books they might not have considered before.
