Welcome to the Dogwood Elementary School Counseling page! Mrs. Fitchpatric and Mrs. Fernandez are dedicated to supporting the academic, social, and emotional growth of every student in a caring and inclusive environment. On this page, you’ll find helpful resources for students and families, information about our counseling services, and tools to support your child’s success throughout the school year. Whether you’re looking for ways to connect with our counselors, learn more about classroom guidance, or access support for academic or personal needs, we’re here to partner with you in helping your child thrive at school and beyond!

Counseling Referral Form 

Please utilize this form to inform the School Counselors of your concerns regarding your child or student. You may utilize this form to share concerns regarding academic, behavior, and/or social/emotional needs. Students can be referred by parents, teachers or self-referral.

What does a School Counselor do?

  • Responsive Services: small group support, individual interventions, response to crisis situations, consult with teachers, families, and specialists, and resource referral
  • Individual Student Planning: academic goal setting, prepare students for transitions 
  • System Support: advocate for the school and program, foster partnerships to collaborate with the community

The Tennessee School Counseling Model & Standards policy 5.103 includes the following areas: academic standards, social and emotional standards, and college and career readiness standards.

Classroom Guidance

The counselor meets with all students in their classrooms every two weeks to discuss topics such as bully prevention, self-esteem, problem solving and decision making, study skills along with reinforcing character education.  Please check your child's schedule.  In addition, students are encouraged to share with parents what is discussed during guidance class.

Individual or Small Group Counseling

The counselor meets with students as needed for short term counseling services during the school hours.  After meeting with a student once, permission will be required for additional consultation.  Some of the groups offered may include new student, self-esteem, social skills, friendship, anger management, or study skills.  These groups will typically last 4-6 weeks.

*A hard copy of this form can/will be sent home from the School Counselor, with your child, in the event that individual or small-group counseling is suggested to provide additional support for success.

Brandi Fitchpatric

School Counselor

Mrs. Brandi Fitchpatric is a school counselor at Dogwood Elementary who primarily works with 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade students and also supports Pre-K and Specialized Instruction through classroom guidance. With many years of experience in school counseling, she is committed to supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional growth. Mrs. Fitchpatric enjoys spending time with her children, Taylor and Asen, and loves pizza, tacos, and sweet potato chips. Her favorite colors include bright pink and red, and she’s known for her fun style and for sporting leopard print. Outside of school, she enjoys bargain shopping, working out, skating, and dreaming about future travel. Mrs. Casey Fernandez is a school counselor at Dogwood Elementary who primarily works with Kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grade students and also supports Pre-K and Specialized Instruction through classroom guidance. She is dedicated to helping students grow academically, socially, and emotionally while creating a safe, supportive environment where children feel comfortable learning and sharing. Mrs. Fernandez enjoys pizza and chips and dip, and she loves spending time with her husband and family outside of school.
