Dolphins Dominate: DES Boys and Girls Win MYA Championship

Dogwood Elementary’s track and field program capped off an outstanding season with a championship performance at the Memphis Youth Athletic Track Championship Meet, as both the boys and girls teams earned first-place finishes against a highly competitive field.

Competing at Bartlett High School, the Dolphins faced 30 teams in one of the largest meets in recent years. The boys team entered the championship undefeated and found a way to finish strong, even after losing two key athletes for running events. In their absence, teammates stepped up in a big way, contributing crucial points that led to a first-place finish by just two points.

“Every point mattered,” said Coach Stacey Schwarzmann. “It truly took a full team effort to get that win.”

The girls team delivered a standout performance of its own, tying for first place with Arlington Elementary. After finishing as high as third place in previous meets this season, the Dolphins elevated their performance at the right time, with strong showings in field events and long-distance races helping secure the top spot.

“The girls really surprised us,” Schwarzmann said. “They rose to the occasion and put together an incredible meet.”

This marks the third time in program history that both Dogwood boys and girls teams have claimed the championship in the same season. The last time came in 2019, when the meet featured just 10 teams. With participation now tripled, this year’s accomplishment highlights the continued growth and strength of the program.

From an undefeated boys season to a breakthrough performance by the girls, Dogwood’s success reflects the dedication, resilience, and teamwork of its student-athletes. As the Dolphins close out their season, they do so as champions, setting a high standard for the years ahead.
